Too often, people look for answers to weight loss problems in the wrong places.  With the constant storm of commercial and advertisements on television and the internet, it’s hard to make a good choice when you need help in losing weight.

The Elusive “Magic Bullet”

Some people are almost desperate to lose weight or see quick results.

This is the target of those who promote capsules or pills that guarantee to “flush” or “block” or “burn” fat  without any effort.  Most of these products are worthless and have no effect.

Some can be addictive, or lead to other health consequences.  But be clear – there is no “magic bullet” to weight loss.

Watch for products such as the following, promising amazing results.  In fact, there’s no real science or proven results behind them:

  • Diet patches, applied to the skin.  These have never been proven to be effective, and millions of these sorts of products have been seized by the FDA.
  • “Fat blockers”, which while they promise to prevent the absorption of fat, in fact they can interrupt natural digestive processes.
  • “Starch blockers”, which make completely unsubstantiated claims about blocking the absorption of starches.
  • Weight loss “secrets of the Orient”, such as Glucomannan.  There is no real evidence this cure or similar herbal cures have any affect on weight loss.
  • Bulk producers or fillers, including guar gum and fiber-based products.  These products absorb liquid, swelling within the stomach, and thereby artificially reduce hunger.  But they can prove detrimental, some even causing obstructions in the intestines or stomach.
  • Spirulina, a species of blue-green algae, has not been proven effective for losing weight.

Avoid Fraudulent Claims

When you think it sounds too good to be true, you’re probably right.  Beware of outrageous claims and avoid products whose claims include phrases such as:

  • new discovery
  • breakthrough
  • exotic
  • effortless
  • guaranteed
  • ancient
  • magical
  • miraculous
  • exclusive
